Four DIGs Sent on Mandatory Retirement

Four senior police officers from Bangladesh have been sent into mandatory retirement. The Ministry of Home Affairs made the decision with provisions for retirement benefits. Action is also being considered against controversial police officers in the 2018 elections.

Dhaka: Four senior police officers have been sent on mandatory retirement. The information was disclosed today, Sunday, through separate notifications signed by Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs' Public Security Division.

The four police officers who were retired are DIG Mohammad Nisharul Arif from the Anti-Terrorism Unit, DIG Mohammad Abdul Kuddus Amin from the Naval Police, DIG Mohammad Azad Mia from the Highway Police, and NDC and Amena Begum.

The notifications state that under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018 (Act No. 57), these officers have been retired in the public interest. They will be entitled to retirement benefits as per the law. The order is stated to be effective immediately.

According to police sources, action will be taken against controversial police officers involved in the disputed elections during the Awami League’s tenure. Police Superintendents who were in charge of the 64 districts during the 2018 elections are also included in this list. Some of those already included may also be sent into mandatory retirement. There is ongoing consideration to take such action against those who have completed 25 years of service.
