Former MP and 3 AL, Chhatra League Leaders Arrested in Dhaka

Dhaka: The Vatara police have arrested four leaders of the Awami League and Chhatra League, including former MP from Tangail-5 constituency, Sanuar Hossain (54), for their involvement in an attack during the anti-discrimination student movement. In a separate operation, the Badda police arrested Ibrahim Anshari Apurbo (24), the president of the banned Chhatra League branch at Brac University. The arrests were made in separate raids on Saturday night, and the information was confirmed by DC Mohammad Talebur Rahman from the DMP’s Public Relations Department on Sunday afternoon.

 

According to the police, a special operation was carried out by the Vatara police from 11:30 PM on Saturday to 3 AM on Sunday. During the operation, former MP Sanuar Hossain, along with Mohammad Abu Musa Ansari (56), the vice president of the Awami League’s Brahmanbaria district, and Salahuddin Saleh (58), the vice president of Vatara Thana’s Ward 40, were arrested. DC Talebur Rahman stated that the arrests were made in connection with an attack on Mithun Fakir (28), who was injured during the anti-discrimination movement on August 5 last year. Mithun filed a case with the Vatara police on December 19. Arrested Salahuddin Saleh was named in the case, and former MP Sanuar Hossain and Abu Musa Ansari were identified as suspects in the investigation. 

 

Following intelligence and technological support, the police carried out a special operation in the Basundhara Residential Area and arrested Sanuar Hossain and Abu Musa Ansari. Salahuddin Saleh was apprehended from the Chulmaid area. In a separate raid, the Badda police arrested Ibrahim Apurbo, the president of the banned Chhatra League branch of Brac University, from a house in the Basundhara Residential Area on Saturday night.

 

Earlier, on July 19, Toufikul Islam Bhuiyan (43) was shot and killed while participating in the anti-discrimination movement near Brac University’s western side on Pragati Sarani in the Badda area. His wife, Ismat Jahan Ilora, filed a case with the Badda police on July 28, and Apurbo was named as a suspect in the case.
