Mirza Fakhrul Calls for Early National Election

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urges the interim government to quickly arrange for national parliamentary elections, emphasizing the need for stability and caution against creating chaos under the guise of reforms. He also highlights the impact of the current government’s actions on the nation’s economy and political environment.

Comilla, Feb 20: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the interim government to immediately arrange for a national parliamentary election, saying that the general public does not understand the concept of reforms. He emphasized that people care more about basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter, and warned that attempts to create chaos in the country under the guise of reforms should be avoided. "Please, do not create instability. Arrange for the election quickly and give the people peace," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks as the chief guest at a rally held at Laksam Stadium in Comilla this afternoon. The event was organized by the BNP units of Laksam Upazila, Laksam Municipality, and Monohorgonj Upazila as part of their movement to implement the party’s 31-point reform plan. The rally began with the release of 31 pigeons by the guests.

Election Essential for National Stability
Speaking at the rally, Fakhrul emphasized that elections are the only way to bring stability to the country. He urged the government to announce the election date immediately and present a clear roadmap. "Do not keep the nation in uncertainty. The only way to stabilize Bangladesh is through an election," he said. "Look at the people and stop creating chaos. Delaying the election will only worsen the situation."

Appeal to Other Political Parties
Addressing other political parties, Fakhrul said, "Do not make statements that will confuse the nation. We expect responsible behavior from all political parties." He further stated, "Bangladesh is going through a crisis, and a fascist regime has destroyed everything in the country. The current government is being supported by some, allowing them to continue their actions."

Reference to the Disappearance of BNP Leaders
Fakhrul also spoke about the forced disappearance of two BNP leaders, Saiful Islam (Hiru) and Humayun Kabir (Parvez), who went missing in Laksam 11 years ago. He recounted the painful scene when their children went to meet former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, unable to find their fathers. "Like Hiru and Humayun, more than 700 BNP leaders and activists were disappeared, and their whereabouts remain unknown," he added.

Condemning Insults to the Liberation War
Fakhrul condemned any attempts to belittle the 1971 Liberation War, stating, "We fought for independence in 1971. Millions gave their lives, and our mothers and sisters sacrificed their honor for a free nation. No one should insult that history. The people of Bangladesh will never tolerate it."

Warning Against Risking the Country’s Future
Fakhrul further stated that the current fascist government has ruined the country's economy and politics, and many investors are turning away, which is negatively impacting the economy. "The opportunity we have today should be used for the country’s benefit. Delaying the election could put the nation at further risk," he warned.

Leaders at the Rally
The rally was chaired by BNP’s Industry Secretary Md. Abul Kalam, and the keynote speech was delivered by BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu. Other special guests included former BNP MP and Comilla Division’s ex-Organizational Secretary Colonel (Retd.) Md. Anwarul Azim, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Kamlpur District BNP’s South District Convenor Zakariya Taher, and others.

The event saw active participation from BNP leaders and activists, who called for an immediate election to restore the country’s stability.
