Former Minister Mozammel's House Attack: Injured Youth Dies

Abul Kashem (20), who was injured in an attack at the residence of former minister A.K.M. Mozammel Haque in Gazipur, has died while receiving treatment. Following the attack on February 9, 17 students were injured, and 132 suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.

Gazi pur: A young man, Abul Kashem (20), who was injured during an attack at the residence of former Liberation War Affairs Minister A.K.M. Mozammel Haque in Gazipur, has died while receiving treatment. He passed away today (Wednesday, February 12) around 3:00 PM at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The hospital's director, Brigadier General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, confirmed his death.

Abul Kashem was a resident of the South Kolmeswar area in Gazipur city. He was the son of Haji Mohammad Jamal Hossain.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Bashir Ahmed, spokesperson for the Gazipur branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "We have decided that Abul Kashem's first funeral prayer will take place at the Central Shaheed Minar, followed by a second one at Rajbari Maidan in Gazipur. However, the exact schedule for the prayers is yet to be finalized." He also added that no new program has been announced at this time.

According to police sources, last Friday night, miscreants attacked and vandalized the house of former Minister A.K.M. Mozammel Haque in the Dhirashram Dakshin Khan area of Gazipur. In response, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement went to confront the attackers. However, they were also attacked, resulting in 17 students being injured, some of whom were hospitalized at Dhaka Medical College. One of the students, who was critically injured, was put on life support.

A case was filed on February 9 by Mohammad Abdullah Mohit, the convenor of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement's Gazipur district branch. The case names 239 individuals, with 200-300 unnamed people also listed as suspects. Amjad Mollah, a local Awami League worker, has been identified as the primary suspect. Police have arrested 132 individuals so far, and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.

Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Station, stated, "We are continuing our efforts to arrest the remaining suspects."
