The admission of candidates who have passed the medical college entrance exam under various quotas for the 2024-25 academic session has been temporarily suspended. The additional director general (medical education) of the Directorate General of Health Education, Professor Dr. Rubina Yasmin, confirmed this on Sunday (February 2). She stated, "The admission of candidates selected under quotas for both public and private medical colleges has been suspended for the time being. Their admission process will begin after a decision is made at the higher government level."

In response to a question, Dr. Rubina Yasmin added, "We have completed the verification process of the certificates of quota-selected candidates, and the Ministry has been informed. The government will make a decision regarding the admission of genuine freedom fighters and candidates selected under other quotas."

According to the published results of the medical college entrance exam for the 2024-25 academic session, 5,380 candidates have been initially selected for admission to public medical colleges. Among them, 193 have been selected under the freedom fighter's quota, and 348 under the backward community quota.

Analysis of the admission applications shows that 133,374 applications were submitted for general seats, of which 59,554 candidates passed the exam. Among them, 5,072 candidates have been initially selected for admission to public medical colleges based on merit.

For the 5% quota allocated for the children of freedom fighters, martyrs, and war heroines, 686 candidates applied for 269 seats. Of them, 193 candidates passed, while 493 failed to secure the minimum required score of 40 marks in the entrance exam.

In the backward community quota, 1,201 candidates applied for 39 seats, and 348 candidates passed. This indicates that for every nine applicants, one will be admitted.

This year, a total of 60,095 candidates passed the MBBS entrance exam, with a pass rate of 45.62%. Students will be admitted to 5,380 seats in 37 public medical colleges and 6,293 seats in 67 approved private medical colleges.
